My family, friend or partner has asked me to leave
When family or friends live together, there can be difficulties and leaving home can seem like the easiest solution but it is not always the best choice. There are many things to consider and the different options will depend on your circumstances.

My partner wants me to leave
A relationship breakdown can be a difficult situation. If you are married, in a civil partnership or are named on the title deeds or tenancy you usually have a right to stay in your home. Before leaving your home, you need to work out what to do with your shared home and we recommend you seek independent legal advice initially.
If you are experiencing domestic abuse in your home, there is help to find safe housing.
If you are in immediate danger call 999.
If you are having relationship problems at home Relate may be able to offer some mediation & support.
If you are unsure of where to start, Citizens Advice can help you understand where to begin.

My family are asking me to leave
Living with parents, siblings, children or in a multi-generational household can be difficult. As long as it is safe to remain at home, it is always best to plan your move.
If you are under the age of 25 and having problems at home, speak to someone you trust such as a teacher, tutor, family member, friend, colleague or religious leader. Read the information from Shelter before moving out. If you are unable to resolve the issue, we will try to help by providing some mediation or directing you to the appropriate support to remain in your family home.

Working with the council
You should contact us before moving out of your home or ending your tenancy, we can work with you to find a solution. Most importantly, do not delay contacting us until you have nowhere to stay. It is much better for us to try and prevent you becoming homeless in the first place or to help you look for a planned move.
If you need more advice and help, contact us as soon as you know you could lose your accommodation. Do not wait until you have nowhere to stay. You can work with us to help you find a solution. If you want to work with us, the first step is for you to provide us with some information about you and your situation.
If you need to leave urgently or in the next few days, see the information on nowhere to stay.
